Divine WisdomThe grain sustains the physical body, while the fragrance elevates the spirit and brings peace to the mind. Even in the dirt of the earth, God planted gentle remedies for both physical hunger and emotional heaviness.

He then told them that when he recited it to the Jinn, they had a more expressive response: every time he reached this verse, they would answer, "O our Lord, there is nothing of Your bounties that we deny, to You belongs all praise."

"Only your Lord Himself, full of Majesty and Honor, will remain ˹forever˺."
Plain UnderstandingAfter the inevitable fading of all creation, only the beautiful, loving Divine presence remains. He is described with "Majesty" (commanding awe and reverence) and "Honor" (showering boundless generosity and love upon His creation).
Purification of the Self [Al-Ghazali]The Name "Dhul-Jalal wal-Ikram" signifies that He alone is the source of all majesty and all honor. To truly know Him is to realize that nothing else possesses inherent existence; every beautiful thing you have ever loved in this world was merely borrowing its beauty and existence from His eternal grace.

Historical Context (Ibn Kathir)When asked to explain the phrase "Day in and day out He has something to bring about," the Prophet ﷺ beautifully clarified: "His affairs include forgiving sins, relieving distress, raising some people, and bringing down others." He is continuously, actively manifesting His mercy and justice.
Divine Wisdom [Ibn Ata'illah]"Do not despair over a delay in receiving a gift, for He guarantees the response in what He chooses for you, not in what you choose for yourself, and at the time He desires, not the time you desire." His daily, meticulous engagement with your life is perfectly timed, even when it is hidden from your immediate understanding.

"We will soon attend to you ˹for judgment˺, O two multitudes ˹of jinn and humans˺!"

After beautifully listing the myriad favors and comforts of the physical world, the Most Compassionate issues a sudden, sobering wake-up call. The time for indulgence will end, and the time for absolute accountability will demand our full presence.
Divine WisdomDo not mistake God's patience for absence. The delay in judgment during this life is an extension of His mercy, giving us time to repent and align our hearts. But a day approaches where all distractions will fall away, and you will stand entirely alone before your Beloved.

"O assembly of jinn and humans! If you can penetrate beyond the realms of the heavens and the earth, then do so. ˹But˺ you cannot do that without ˹Our˺ authority."
Plain UnderstandingHumanity possesses incredible intellect, capable of exploring the depths of the ocean and the expanse of space. Yet, this verse lovingly checks our cosmic ego: no matter our technological or spiritual advancement, we remain eternally dependent within the boundaries of His dominion.
Purification of the SelfYou cannot escape God by running outward into the universe, nor can you escape Him by retreating inward. True liberation is not found in fleeing His authority, but in beautifully surrendering to it. The only way "out" of the trials of existence is "through" His encompassing grace.

Plain UnderstandingThe very sky above us—currently a symbol of steadfast stability and calm blue comfort—will violently unravel, changing colors and melting away. The familiar universe will collapse to make way for the eternal reality.
Divine WisdomIf the vast, unshakeable heavens will eventually tear apart and melt, why do we place so much desperate trust in the fragile, temporary things of this earth? Let the unraveling of the cosmos be a reminder to anchor your heart only in the Creator of the cosmos.

"On that Day there will be no need for any human or jinn to be asked about their sins."
Plain UnderstandingIn worldly courts, we can use eloquent speech to hide our motives or lie about our actions. On this Day, speech becomes entirely unnecessary. The reality of who we chose to be will be physically evident; our very souls will speak for us.
Purification of the Self [Ibn Ata'illah]"Whatever is deposited in the invisible world of innermost hearts is manifested in the visible world of phenomena." The Day of Judgment is merely the turning inside-out of the soul. The sins you harbored internally will become your external reality, requiring no verbal confession.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
"Then which of your Lord’s favors will you both deny?"
Plain UnderstandingTo know that absolute truth will eventually prevail, and that no oppressor can talk their way out of the harm they caused, is a profound comfort and favor to every soul that was wronged in this world.

يُعْرَفُ ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ بِسِيمَـٰهُمْ فَيُؤْخَذُ بِٱلنَّوَاصِى وَٱلْأَقْدَامِ
"The wicked will be recognized by their appearance, then will be seized by ˹their˺ forelocks and feet."
Plain UnderstandingA stark, humbling image. Those who lived their lives in arrogance, oppressing others and ignoring the Divine, will be instantly recognizable by the darkness and despair physically marking them. Their pride will be entirely dismantled.
Historical Context (Al-Tabari)Classical exegesis notes that the seizing of the "forelock" (the front of the head) and the "feet" is a metaphor for total, inescapable loss of control. The arrogant, who walked the earth believing they answered to no one, are physically humbled and brought to task.

هَـٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِى يُكَذِّبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ
"˹They will be told,˺ “This is the Hell which the wicked denied.”"
Plain UnderstandingThe ultimate tragedy. They spent their lives mocking the idea of consequence, treating the warnings of the Prophets as myths. Now, the abstract concept they laughed at has become their inescapable, immediate reality.
